Life as a living out or part-time student is a different experience - it can be wonderful, but also poses some challenges. We’ll be adding more to this page, but if there’s anything you’d find useful please get in touch!

Accommodation?

Are you a part-time student heading to Oxford for a while and struggling to find accommodation? Do you need help finding somewhere to live year round? We know it can be hard to find suitable/affordable accommodation, and are discussing it at college and university level. For now, here are some hopefully useful links:

Join our WhatsApp groups!

We have WhatsApp channels for living out students and a separate one for part-timers too! It’s where we co-ordinate meet-ups and make relevant announcements, but they’re also great places to connect and get advice. Due to security reasons, we can only circulate the link via an Oxford SSO email; if you’d like to be added, please email the MCR President or Living Out Officer, or refer to the link circulated in the BwB.

Online activities?

The MCR Committee understands that MCR students who live out or are part-time might not be able to attend college events in-person. Since Michaelmas 2025, our MCR Welfare, Mature, and Living Out Officers added for the first time new hybrid activities like online chats (with coffee and cake!), as well as an academic symposium and online kindness donation. We’re working to make more college events hybrid so that all our students are able to participate in them, so if there’s something you’d like to attend or be involved in please reach out and we’ll do what we can!

Alternatively, if you’d like to propose an online event, please fill out the GM motion, so we can consider them collectively! The officers have their own activities lined up, but we’re always looking for new ideas and involvement - we’d love to help you run your own events or discuss how you can be more involved (maybe even running for the Committee yourself)!
